Program Overview

This program examines how loss impacts both the mind and body, addressing various forms of grief, how it differs from depression, and how it shows up across age groups and cultures. Participants will gain insight into the brain’s response to grief, learn about the DSM-5-TR criteria for complicated grief, and identify major risk factors. Through hands-on experiences, we’ll explore body-based approaches to grief and review effective therapy models for prolonged grief, offering practical strategies for healing and support.

This course is designed for clinical workers: counselors, social workers, therapist, hopice workers, psychologist, and those support those in grief.

Learning Objectives

After attending this course participants will be able to:

  • Identify types of grief and reactions
  • Understand complicated grief, DSM-5- TR criteria, and risk factors
  • Describe the neurophysiology of grief
  • Compare Grief and Major Depressive Disorders
  • Identify how grief presents across developmental life span
  • Identify ways grief presents across cultures
  • Identify and analyze existing therapeutic models for working with prolonged grief

This live webinar takes place on Zoom and is fully interactive. Attendees may ask and answer questions throughout the presentation and participate in instructor-led discussions.

CE INFORMATION AND CANCELLATION POLICY

Course completion requirement: Social workers must attend the entire course and complete a course evaluation to be eliegible for CE credit.

Certificates of completion will be emailed within 10 business days of course completion.

Cancellation and Refund Policy: We understand that situations arise. If you need to cancel, please contact us at keisha@thegatheringplacewcc.org. Please be sure that you are able to be present (on camera for virtual trainings) for all three days of the training. All cancellations must be received 14 days prior to the first day of training, and will be fully refunded less the 4% transaction fee.  An additional $50 will be deducted from your refund if materials have already been sent before cancellation.  After that, we will provide you with a full credit toward a replacement course, valid for one (1) year. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AS A RESULT OF PARTIAL ATTENDANCE. PLEASE ENSURE YOU ARE ABLE TO BE FULLY PRESENT FOR THE ENTIRE TRAINING.’

Keisha Ward, LCMHC, CBS is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor certified in Bereavement Counseling, Brainspotting and Trauma Focused CBT. Keisha is in private practice in North Carolina where she specializes in helping client’s navigate grief, trauma, and transitional issues on life’s journey.

In addition to therapy, Keisha has experience in teaching, training, speaking, and consulting. She believes everyone innately has in them what they need to heal. As a result, she has a passion for working with other clinicians across a spectrum of specialties in learning to support clients on their healing journey.

Keisha is also trained in EMDR, IFS, SE, EFT, DBT, and CPT.
